Most people including believers argue that dreams are not spiritual and relevant. But looking at the word of God, dreams are a manifestation of the out pouring of the Spirit of God upon a person. Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh … your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions …”

According to this scripture, the old men will dream after the out pouring of the Holy Spirit upon them. Dreams from God can give divine direction and guidance. It is a medium of receiving divine revelation from God and can be a very useful tool to the prophets.

Numbers 12:6 “… If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a dream.”

God in some instances reveals Himself, His messages and gives direction to His prophets/children through dreams that they have, in the night.

God uses night dreams and visions to give divine direction if He cannot get our attention through other ways.

Some times when God speaks in other ways, people may not take it seriously so He uses dreams.

Job 33:14-16 “… For God may speak in one way or another, yet man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on them…then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction”

In sleep, there is no other interruption so God can speak and if one remembers their dreams they will take the instruction. (God wants man to clearly hear from Him that is why He takes them through the wilderness at times, so that He gets their full attention).

Even warnings about things that happen, God gives His people through dreams like Joseph in Mtt 2:13-15 “God warned Joseph in a dream about the plans of Herod …”

God on several occasions has used dreams to give warning or direct His people in the right way. He reveals what is to happen in the future to them. Like Abraham knew through a dream that his descendants would be enslaved for four hundred year.

Considering all the above examples, it’s clear that dreams are biblical and spiritual and can be used to diagnose spiritual problems.

They can reveal sources of problems and appropriate solutions to be employed.

Prayer points (speak them out)

- Heavenly Father, open my spiritual eyes and ears, so that I may see and hear from you.

- Every spirit that has been interfering with my dreams, get out of my life in the name of Jesus.

- The spirit of forgetfulness in my dream memory, get out now in the name of Jesus.

- O Lord reveal to me your plans concerning; my life, family, marriage, ministry, job etc in the name of Jesus.
