The Word By Pr George Oduch
Understanding The Times
It is important for us as Christians and as Ugandans to understand the period or era in which we live. God
expects us to discern and understand the significance of what is going on in the world. That is why Jesus in
Mathew 16:1-4 scolded the Pharisees and Sadducees and called them hypocrites for being able to discern
the physical whether but without being able to discern what God was doing in the world. And because of that ignorance, Jesus told them that the only sign left, that would help them understand what God was doing in the world was the sign of Jonah who spent three days in the bowel of the fish, meaning that his coming death and resurrection was a sign to the world. So God expects us to be able to see where we are heading through the events that are constantly unfolding around us, both near and far. We have seen turmoil and change of government in Tunisia, Egypt, and now Libya is taking the same route. We have seen Southern Sudan Vote to become an independent country. In Iran the leadership had to offer $3000 to every citizen, for a temporary settlement between the people and the leadership. A few years ago, we saw the regime of Saddam Hussein and that of the Taliban in Afghanistan overthrown. What do we make of this? When you watch political analysts discussing the recent events in Tunisia and Egypt, you realize that they were all taken by surprise and did not know what was coming. And now on the 11th of March 2011 a devastating earthquake hit Japan and over ten thousand people are feared dead. Their Nuclear power system was damaged leading to leakage of radioactive fumes into the atmosphere. But what about us in the Church, Should we remain ignorant? Won’t the same things Jesus told the Pharisees and the Sadducees apply to us? For several years now, I have a world map on the wall of my office. On that map there is a rectangle from latitude 10° north of equator to latitude 40° North of Equator. And the area covered stretches from Japan to the coast of West Africa.

This area in the Missionary cycles of the church is called the 10/40 window. According to WORD FOR THE WORLD, this window is a part of the world that remains unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
v There are 62 nations within the 10/40 window
v 4.1 billion Of the world’s 5.6 billion people live here.
v There are more than 1.2 billion people under the influence of communism
v It contains over 1 billion Muslims, nearly 1 billion Hindus and 600 million Buddhist.
Nations in the 10/40 Window

The 10/40 Window encompasses Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, China, Cyprus, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Gambia, Greece, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Western Sahara, and Yemen. These are all “Old World” nations (mostly in the eastern hemisphere) with at least 50 percent of their land mass falling within 10 to 40 degrees latitude. See the list of nations in the original study.
Since I got that map, I have been burdened to join those who have been praying since 1995, for God to bring change in the nations of the 10/40 window in order to open it up to the gospel. According to the 2009 Open Doors World Watch list, forty-four of the fifty worst persecutors of Christians are located in the 10/40 window. This information is not mere coincidence. The kingdom of God has not fully penetrated this region. It is an entrenched satanic stronghold. Billions of people in the 10/40 window are currently held captive by rulers with demonic influences, bound and impoverished by evil powers.
In fact, when I began to pray for the 10/40 window, I have been expectant that God would begin to do something in this window. And when the uprising of Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya began to occur, in addition to the peaceful independent of southern Sudan and to Iraq and Afghanistan, I could discern clearly in my spirit that God was at work opening up the 10/40 window to far reaching changes. It is important to understand that what happened in Tunisia and Egypt is something unique and cannot just happen anyhow to other nations in Africa outside the 10/40 window. Some people have even written in the newspapers that the same thing would happen in Uganda. I will tell you why chaos is not just going to happen like that in Uganda or some other African countries outside the ten forty window. What has happened in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya are the doings of God. We are going to see a lot of political, economic and cultural changes sweeping across the 10/40 window. Due to what is happening now in the 10/40 window, I believe that if the church prays, many people in the technologically advanced Japan will begin to seek for answers for their uncertainties beyond their idols and technology. That is why we should be wise about issues connected to these changes. In 1 Chronicles 12:32 (KJV) the bible says that:
“... The children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were a hundred; and all their brethren were at their command”.
There are two key points the bible notes here:
1. That the children of Issachar understood the times.
2. They knew what the people of Israel ought to do.
The children of Issachar understood the significance of what was happening in Israel. They could tell from the events around them about what direction things were going to take. They then knew what steps the people of Israel needed to take.
From what is happening in the 10/40 window, and the rest of Africa, what is God saying to us? Last year in The Africa House of Prayer meeting in Nigeria Abuja, 2010 was declared as the year of Jubilee for Africa. Seventeen African countries celebrated their fiftieth anniversary. Prophetically this is a season for Africa to be freed and restored to take back what belonged to her. Just before I left for the meeting in Abuja I saw in a dream, the map of Africa covering the entire space on one side of a tall sky scrapper. And in that twilight state, I saw that map of Africa begin to glow out of darkness. The message was clear in my spirit. The time for Africa to rise out of darkness and develop has come. It is clear that the skyscraper represented economic development and the glowing of Africa out of darkness represented the unveiling of the new order of things that God was going to bring to Africa. And the Lord put in my heart to go for that historic Abuja meeting. What I got clearly in my spirit was confirmed by the theme of that prayer meeting. Africa is going to rise and develop. Those nations that fall outside the 10/40 window from Africa and which still have oppressive governments will be changed. Two continents are in divine focus as of now: Africa and Asia. Africa is going to be used to take the gospel to the rest of the world. Europe and America are in a state of apostasy and cannot now take out the true gospel as it did before. Before God can use any nation for the propagation of the gospel to the world, He prospers them first. He blessed Great Britain and made her an empire. It was not by coincidence that during that time many missionaries went out of Britain with the message of the gospel to the British colonies, and private people contributed towards this missionary work. The same thing happened in the U.S.A. God first prospered USA and made it a world power in order to enable her send out missionaries to many parts of the world. Now the societies of Western Europe and America have turned away from God and the very godly principles that caused them to prosper. And that is how Africa comes into the picture. It is Africa’s turn to prosper and take the gospel to Asia and the rest of the world. The entire continent is going to be prepared for God’s visitation. And in the continent of Africa, it is very clear that Uganda has a special role to play in this end time outreach with the gospel. Since the 80’s, prophecies after prophecies have been spoken about Uganda’s missionary role in the ministry of the gospel. Recent prophecies spoke about the unity that God was bringing to the nation of Uganda and the prosperity that would follow. It also speaks of Uganda’s role in the taking out of the gospel and holiness. One such a prophecy was issued out in 2006 by Marvin and Debra Westbrook, from Texas through House of Africa –prophetic words and ourchurch.com. The leaders and people of Uganda should be prepared for what God is going to do in Uganda. He is going to unite this land and prosper this land. Our education system in being set on the right track for mass education, a prerequisite for attaining a higher level of development.
It is not by coincidence that the petroleum that was known to have existed in Uganda, is going to be exploited now. Eastern economies are looking at Africa to satisfy the need of their exploding economies. East African Community is yet another economic state being put in place to fulfill God‘s plan of lifting Africa out of poverty in order to enable her fulfill her prophetic destiny. In fact, I was very excited when I read in The East African News papers of 14th-20th March 2011 page 3 under the heading “African nations set for big economic bloc”. The article says that the tripartite, secretariat- involving the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the East African Community (EAC) and Common Market For Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) have approved an action plan for a merger to establish one Grand Free Trade Area with a combined population of 570 million people and GDP of $ 625 billion. This would open borders to almost half of the continent from Cape Town to Cairo. Things are going to be better for us in Uganda If we shall walk with God. The chaos, the distinction and turbulence of the past will not come because God’s agenda for Uganda requires peace and prosperity. God is going to purge evil away from this land. That is why evil like homosexuality and abortion that is going to cause western nations to sink should not be allowed to be imported to us in Africa. We should prepare ourselves and the young generation for what is coming. The bible in 1 Chr 12:32 says that the children of Issachar had understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do. And even now God is speaking to us in Africa and Uganda. Having known that much is coming our way what should we do? We can learn something more from Daniel as well. He was a man who understood the times.
“In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes a medes by descent, who was made ruler over the Babylonian kingdom- in the first year of his reign, I Daniel understood from the scripture , according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:’ Daniel 9:1-4
From the example of Daniel after knowing what God has in store for us, there are four things that we ought to do as Christians:
1. Draw Closer To God Through Prayer
Immediately Daniel understood from the prophesy of Jeremiah that the time for them to stay in captivity and exile was already over, he drew closer to God in prayer. They were supposed to be free by that point yet they were still slaves. It is only prayer that brings one to a place of knowledge and confidence about God’s intentions. James 4:8 (KJV) says that “draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” It is the time for Africa to draw near to God. It is time for Uganda to seek God in prayer so that we can fulfill our prophetic destiny as God’s people. Prayer delivers and empowers one with God’s grace. Prayer causes one to work in knowledge.
2. Repent
Daniel had to repent for the sins of his nation. It is time for Africa to repent for the sins of her nations. As God’s people in the church in Africa and Uganda, we should repent for the sins our leaders and people right from the colonial times until now. We should repent of corruption, wars, witchcraft, idolatry, human sacrifices and immorality. We should turn away from all that is vile. We should prepare ourselves as a people who are going to be used by God. No sin should stay on the way of what God is going to do for us. After many civil wars, healing is needed for our land. And only repentance will bring about the answers and healing we need (2 Chronicles 7:14).
3. Pay Attention To God’s Word
It is God’s word that can steer one into the right direction. Obedience to God’s word brings about righteousness and prosperity. Where people ignore God’s word disaster awaits them. That is why Daniel in his prayers to God said: “Just as it is written in the laws of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our sins and giving our attention to your truth.” (Dan 9:13).It is time for us to heed the word of God so that He can fulfill those words through our lives.
4.Seek God’s Favor
God’s favor is His kindness. God’s favor is very important for those who want to fulfill God’s will. His favor will cause His visitation upon your life (Genesis 18:9, 21:2 NIV). God’s favor will open doors for you and cause God to be gracious towards you (Isaiah 30:15 NIV). In addition to these, God’s favor will cause people to rally behind you (1 Chronicles 12:23 KJV).Without God’s favor, people will not see the need to support you in what God has called you to do. Pray for His favor to be upon Uganda, East Africa and the entire Africa for the hour of her glory has come.
What Happens When You Fail To Understand The Times?
When you look at Matthew 16:1-3, and Luke 19:41-44(NIV), you will realize that failing to understand the times will cause you as a nation to lose your direction. Without knowledge there is no progress towards deliverance and salvation. Like in the case of Daniel, it was only him who realized that they were still slaves at a time when they were supposed to be free. Sustainable blessings only come after freedom. The time for Africa to be a source only for raw material is ending. It is time for Africa to work hard and add value to everything she produces and rise up in righteousness and shine. It is time for Africa to be blessed. It is time for Africa to be a blessing to the world, all to the glory of God.

It Is Your Season For Breakthrough
Recently while I was praying for God to give me a word for the church, I kept hearing the word “breakthrough” I ignored itthe first and the second time. When it came the third time, I realized that the spirit of God was giving me a word for the church. It became very clear in my spirit that God was telling His people that it is their season to breakthrough from whatever had held them from progressing in life. Our God appreciates that life is indeed full of hurdles or barriers that everyone at some point in time have to come to.And there are certain points that one will from time to time reach, and whatever he or she does, the person will remain stuck. There are certain kinds of problems or challenges that one can struggle to tackle in vain. But when God grants you grace, then suddenly you find yourself breaking through. When you handle challenges or problems with resignations, then nothing will change. But when you handle it with faith, and defiance, then change is sure to come. Stubborn problems need God. You will have to work with Godto deal with them. This is because only God can handle the underlying factors that have to be dealt with before people can breakthrough. had a stubborn problem. After the death of Joseph, they became enslaved for a larger portion of the four hundred years they spent in Egypt. Their breakthrough only came when God sent them a leader in Moses and when He also dealt with the gods of Egypt in the night of the Passover (Exodus 12:12, 29-30). Just like in the case of Israel in Egypt, when God’s people pray and cry out to Him, reminding Him of their needs and His own promises, God hears. He will always send a word to His people to prepare them for breakthrough. When the Israelites left Egypt, God in Exodus 14: 1-4, informed them through Moses that He would deal with the pursuing Pharaoh and his chariots so that He can gain glory over them. Why did God communicate what was going to happen in advance? So that when the army of Egypt surfaces from their rear while the sea is on their way in front, they would still walk on by faith. When your season for a breakthrough comes, you have to be very careful (Ex14:10-15). Why? Because many times, at the point of your breakthrough things may seem to be worsening. When the Israelites reached the Red Sea, things looked bad. The Egyptians were closing on them yet it seemed there was nowhere to go. The Red Sea was in front of them. And Moses told the people not to fear. You have to guard yourself against fear. Instead be firm in your faith when things seem to be worsening. That will allow God to act for you at such a critical moment. Then Moses began to cry out to God, He told Moses not to cry out to Him, but to tell the children of Israel to go forward towards the Sea. He also instructed Moses to Lift up his rod and stretch out his hand over the sea and divide it. When God has decided to grant you a breakthrough, don’t fear the enemy that is trying to pursue you to take you back into captivity. He cannot do it because God will always come between you and the source of your problem/ enemies to contend with them.
In Exodus 14:19 the bible says that: “And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them.” God was set to deal with their enemies. And Moses had assured them that the Egyptians they saw persuing them, they will never see again (Exodus 14:13). When Moses and the children of Israel acted upon the word of God, God moved and parted the water for them, so that they could walk on dry ground. We are told in Exodus 14:24-25 that when the Lord just looked down upon the army of Egypt, they fell into trouble. When the Egyptians realized that God was fighting them they tried their best to escape back but it was too late for them. Israel had already crossed to the other side of the sea. God told Moses to spread out his hand over the sea that water may come upon the Egyptians, on their chariots and horsemen. So the Lord over threw the Egyptians in the midst of the sea and saved the Israelites. Their] problem was solved. The same God who delivered them is the same God who is set to deliver you. You have toiled, prayed, cried for God to give you a breakthrough. I can hear in my spirit the spirit of God saying this is your time to breakthrough!
That problem that had troubled you for so long, you will see no more.
It is your season for change. God is bringing change in your life for your good and His glory.
Grace has been released upon your life that will enable you to break through in that very unique situation you are facing.
Whatever blessing had been blocked from reaching you is coming That curse that has hindered you for long is being broken from your life in Jesus name.
It is the season for Uganda and Africa to breakthrough.
It is time for glory! May you experience it, may you enjoy it in Jesus name. Amen and Amen

Building, Mending And Sustaining Relationships
Last week, one of our auditors from Compassion international office shared about the trust God has given us in different relationships. He said God trusted man by making him His favorite creation; but, Adam and Eve took only seconds to damage that relationship with God.
He also told us a story of a son of a politician. The boy wanted his father to coach him how to become a successful politician. The father one morning told him to pick a adder and climb to their roof. As the boy climbed, his father, who was holding the ladder, left it and the boy fell down. He was irritated by the father letting him fall down and he asked; “You are not a good father. You let me fall down?” The father replied; yes, that is how hard it is in politics. Never trust anyone. Not even your father. And remember that people will always strive to pull you down. It is only God you can fully trust.”
To me, the key to any relationship is love and this does not come easy. There is always work involved, and it depends on the two people on how they want to work their way round. According to an article by Sabrina Tan in a magazine called Have Faith, we have to deal with the love of each other, and also bearing in mind God’s love for us. We also have to understand that whatever we do we have to honor God’s will. The article gives three ways how to keep a relationship working; regular prayers, let God guide you, pray day and night individually to ask God to speak to you, guide you on what He wants you to bring into the relationship, talk to each other about your differences and understand where it is coming from. If possible, write down your differences and understanding, look it up and talk about it. The article ends by saying that we need to ultimately have God in our relationships with people.Back to the auditor, he noted that God trusted all of us with restoration; Acts 3:19-21 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time”. Two words are striking; REPENT AND RETURN God is giving an opportunity to whoever has annoyed Him. God’s Grace is manifested in the above scripture specifically to keep our relationship with Him alive through His only son Jesus Christ. This means we need to thank God for trusting us with all the responsibilities like finances, spouse, children, cars, friends, jobs and ultimately salvation. Lastly, we should ask the Lord to help us not to put our trust in Him down because He has never disappointed us.

Poor Perception Can Hinder Your Greatness
As children whenever we were told to or not to do something with either genuine or fabricated reasons it was just enough to stop us going that direction but as you grow up, you mature in reasoning, rationale starts crossing your mind, you start questioning whatever you are told and eventually curiosity pushes you into doing what you were for biden only to be shocked by the utter truth.
Unfortunately this is happening in church especially in this era of many appealing religions and cults. In the initial stages of giving life to Christ we become so humble before the hands of God, brethren and the church leaders but now your perception might be killing you softly. This is so dangerous because God laments that His people die because of lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6), it’s that lack which is dangerous but what is most devastating is having the knowledge and you fail to aptly use it (lack of wisdom) because of a misconception.
If we do not equip ourselves with the right perception it’s easy for the devil to mislead us. A case in point is Eve, God warned Eve not to eat any fruit of knowledge from the forbidden tree in the centre of Eden. The devil cunningly lured Eve that she would actually become like God. A person without knowledge combined with a wrong perception succumbs to this with no hesitation. But the right thinking person would actually question Lucifer why He was not like God? Did it mean the devil never wanted to be like God? In fact that is what Satan wanted all along before he was ejected from heaven. Lucifer is on a mission to stop Christians from going to heaven.
17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.[a] The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle (Exodus 13:17). Its thus important to know that even God cannot change your mind except by leading you into an impactful situation.. This is how complex it is when dealing with your perception; it’s only you who has the power to change the way you think, the way you reason, and the way you see things. In primary school I was so bright but I hated one teacher, in fact whenever I saw him I imagined him with two heads and I could eventually see him with two heads in class. However, my brightness did not take me anywhere but my wrong perceptions for the teacher of course lead me to sheer failure. You are failing because you think God does not love or favor you, just change and perceive it otherwise.
What we hear and see is not greater than what we think. Perhaps that is why the devil likes attacking your thoughts in order to corrupt your perception. Nicodemus thought that to be born again is to enter your mother’s womb for the second time. For the first time the great teacher in Israel (Nicodemus) was taught by another teacher (Jesus), Jesus told Nicodemus that what is born of the flesh is flesh and of the spirit is a spirit. Did you know that you are a born of God? And yet God is a spirit. Did you know that Satan was one of God’s angels and is a spirit? That means you can never use your physical means to win the enemy.
Most of us are in positions where resources are at our disposals and opportunities to change our lives and of those around us but it’s your poor perception which is blocking you from greatness. Judas Iscariot is one of the prime persons who got it on the side of perception; imagine being close to Jesus, how great, how wonderful, how many lives would a person change, you too could be in church but you may not be getting the point. While some people are hurting because of others blessings you may also be losing yours because you have a retaliatory perception or pride.
Its only people who think big, dream big who become big. Often times we become what we think, a friend one time called me and said he was feeling feverish and laying on the bed, I told him get out of bed and do something, for it is your mind which is feverish not the body. After 20 minutes he called and said he was feeling ok and now heading to office. You are a blessed person, resourceful, wealthy but the most devastating hindrance that you should guard against is wrong throughts that the greatness being preached is not meant for you. Now greatness has been taught, you have to listen great, perceive great, think great, dream great and you will surely be great, the choice is yours but God wants you to be great

Uplifting Testimonies
MIRACULOUSLY HEALED FROM CANCER
“Praise the Lord Church, God is good! Ooh Jesus is my Lord! I thank God for my life, I had no life left, all the tests the doctors carried out on me gave bad reports, but I thank the Lord who endures forever. He who picked me from the gates of death and gave me a new body. I thank God for VCCM, for Pastor George and Rose Oduch, all the associate Pastors, Intercessors and all the ministers who stood with me in prayers and for the kind of love they showed me. Above all I thank God through whom all things are possible. He healed me from Cancer!! Surprisingly, the radiologist who carried out the imaging tests at first is the very one who did the last scan. According to the first test, I had breast cancer and the scan was showing that my lungs, liver and bones were eaten up by cancer with no chances of surviving. But after the constant attendance of the deliverance services at VCCM where the senior Pastor kept praying and also encouraging me to have faith and that all will be well God did something wonderful. When my daughter took me for a second scan test this time the report was showing that all those organs were Normal. “There was no sign of cancer” and the radiologist asked me about the one who did the first scan only to realize he was the one who did it. Church, I am so happy that God healed me from cancer. I give Him all the glory.

WHAT PRAYER CAN DO
Praise the Lord beloved, it’s good to know that there is power in prayers and the need to walk with Christ and believe that he can do things even that look impossible. When the issue of electing Army members of parliament came up, Pastor George Oduch challenged me with a question as to whether I could represent the Army in the parliament and I said “yes if elected”. But there was no sign that such a thing was possible. Because for you to be nominated it’s a hard task. The way it is done in the army is different from the way ordinary MP nominations are done. You have to be nominated at a high strategic level and then approved at a higher level still for you to be just on the list of people nominated for elections. I really thank God that I was nominated in the first place. On that day of voting, Pastor rang me at the time I was walking in for elections and he said let’s pray and commit the day and the elections in the hands of God. When the race started especially at the time of tallying I had a hard time. My name was not being mentioned. I had had no opportunity to campaign because I never knew I was going to be nominated. I prayed and asked God why He was going to allow me to be humiliated. I began to imagine the news papers saying ‘The Chief of staff land forces got zero votes’. It was a trying moment which even a brave person cannot easily contain. However, I went and prayed briefly in my office, had a cup of tea then came back only to ask a few senior officers how the tallying was and they said; ‘Afande, you are doing well, they had left you but you have raced and caught up with them’
At the end of it all, I was elected among the ten MPS elected to represent the Army in the parliament. I really want to say that for me to be elected as an Army MP in the 9th parliament is by God’s grace and the result of being good to people. And when I go to the parliament, I will defend what glorifies God. All glory goes back to God.
