Prison Outreach Ministry

VCCM also reaches out to various prisons within Uganda through the prisons ministry that has over the years seen many prisoners receiving Christ as their Lord and saviour and this ministry has also been meeting the basic needs of the prisoners through provision of soap, Sugar, clothing to prisoners. Worth mentioning is a case of  the women prisoners in Luzira prison who received uniforms provided by  Victory Church of Christ in 2006,   and also other Prisons Like Kitalya, Bulawla, Naguru Remand home.

During our visitation to the mentioned Prisons. We were able to supply the young offenders in the remand home and the Imitates in Kitalia prisons with over 11 cartons of laundry soap, gospel message tracts and New Testament Bibles. During these outreaches, we saw the lives of many of the prisoners changed as the gospel was shared to them. This was evident by the numbers that surrendered their lives to the Lord, which we saw in the Remand home and in Kitalia Prison giving their lives to Christ.

VCCM also give donations to individual inmates from various prisons ranging from paraffin for those studying for U.C.E exams, laundry soap to financial assistance for transport and other basic needs. Through this ministry, we believe that together with the prison authority we can reduce on the moral degeneration in our country and contribute to the rehabilitation of the members of our communities who are caught up in crime.

We also saw it a necessary endeavor to build capacity in the prisons outreach programme and on the 14th October VCCM sent a team of four Members to attend the Alpha for Prisons training conference which took place in the church of the Resurrection Bugolobi, which was really a great enhancement to the prison ministry.

PRISON REPORT (Luzira Remand Prison)

28th/12/07

On the 28thDecember 2007, our team accompanied by the Sunday school choir visited Luzira Remand Prison. It was supposed to be a Christmas visit, but because of the busy schedules within the Christmas season within the prison, we made the visit on the 28th.

During the visit, I shared the word of God with the inmates and there after made an altar call through which 72 inmates surrendered their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. And in order to help them mature in the word of God, we gave 300 New Testament bibles to the inmates.

Our original plan was to share with the inmates on Christmas day. So whatever we had for the Christmas we took on this visit and these were: One cow, 150 kg of rice and all ingredients for preparing the meal which all the inmates enjoyed after sharing the word of God with them.

During the visit, we met the Prison Chaplain, Rev Johnson, the O.C (Officer in Charge) Mr. Katungye Frank, the welfare officer madam Jennifer, the duty officer Mr. Tiodni James and other staff within the Prison.

Rev. Johnson commended our visit and requested that if possible we could make this kind of visit to be annually to celebrate Christmas with the inmates in the remand prison.

Mean while the O. C Mr. Katungye Frank commented that many Christian ministries have visited the Remand Prison in the past years but, he has never seen the impact the word of God has had in the lives of the inmates as he has witnessed when we shared with them this time and this made him to question the duty officer who is also a member of Victory Church Of Christ, why he never informed him about our ministry and our outreach to the prisons and why he has never taken us to minister in that prison.

Because of the impact the word of God we shared had on the Prison inmates, the O.C said that first priority will be given to Victory Church to minister in the prison as often as the Lord enables them and pledged his support to any attempt Victory Church will make to reach out to the prisoners in any section of Luzira prison and he said the door to minister in the prison will always be open to Victory Church with the hope that, continual visitation and the sharing of the word of God with them will change their lives for the better. And this he said will help them not only as prisoners, but also after their release as they go back into their communities.

With the great need we have seen for the word of God in prison, and the hope of changing the inmates to good and profitable citizens, we believe God for more support, towards the prison ministry to enable us share the love of God with the inmates as often as possible. Our prayer is that God may reward everyone who has been a blessing to the prison ministry that has made the outreach possible by supporting it financially. May god bless you

PRISON REPORT

9th April 2007

The Testimony Of Kitalya Prison

Last November Pastor Pius Esabu led our team for prison ministry to Kitalya Prison located in Mityana district Northwest of Kampala City; where they shared the gospel with the inmates. During that visit 18 inmates surrendered their lives to Christ.

On the 7th April we made another visit to Kitalya Prison to preach, distribute gospel tracts and supply the prisoners with laundry soap. We received a warm welcome from Mr. Henry Natwaluma, the Deputy O/C (officer in charge the Prison). He was very appreciative of the contribution the message of the gospel has made to the prison in transforming the prisoners.

This time when we visited the prison, we were greatly surprised to see the great work that God has done through the church in the jail. It had grown close to 100 people out of a prison population of three hundred and one inmates.

We had an out door prayer meeting with them in the center of the prison compound. Four inmates gave their lives to Christ after hearing the Easter message of Why Jesus Christ suffered and why He is glorified.

From the 12th May 2007, for seven days the prison administration has permitted the church in Kitalya jail to hold a gospel crusade there for fellow inmates. This I have never seen in all the years we have been taking the gospel to prison. This is God at work through the power of the word and the subjecting work of the Holy Spirit. Kitalya prison is a farm prison where only convicted prisoners are kept to labour and produce for revenue, for them to be given seven days of the gospel is God’s grace.

Remember to lift this crusade in prayer so that the Lord may use that Church to reach the souls that are in the jail and transform them.

When we met the officer in charge labour for the farm Mr Okong, he told us that one of the reasons that has contributed towards discipline in the prison is that they treat the prisoners well. “ I endeavour to treat them the way I would wish to be treated, as a result we have no problem with them.” He said. This is truly the fruit of the gospel affecting even the way the administration within the prison is run. We give glory to God for His great work in this prison.

According to the deputy O/C Mr. Henry Natwaluma, Kitalya was a local prison which belonged to the Kabaka (The King of the Baganda people) but which he handed over to the British colonial administration in the 50’s who built it and transformed it into a modern prison farm which was meant to be a place for equiping the inmates with a trade on release from the prison. But that is not so now, since much of the infrastructure was destroyed during the wars. “The 1979 liberation war and the bush war that brought the current government in power brought about the destruction of much of this prison. Looters came from the villages around the place and took away everything that could be looted. The power line was disconnected and the water supply was destroyed. Now we have to fetch water from the stream for washing. Other training project like carpentry, were destroyed.

The place needs rehabilitation!” Reported Mr. Henry Natwaluma.

The prisoners have enough food since some percentage of the food they grow is left for their feeding. What they are in constant need of is soap for the maintenance of hygiene, sugar and uniforms. The prison authority is unable to adequately meet these demands.

Yet through the church something could be done to alleviate the situation especially when we remember the Lord’s words that say, “I …was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visted me” Mat 25:35.

Luzira - Kampala

Praise the Almighty God!

We greet you in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

Happy New Year Pastor. As a church in Luzira women prison, we take this opportunity to greatly thank you for the generous contribution you and your church made thru dressing all the women prisoners in their uniforms. It is a long time since you bought for us the uniforms and we had hoped that you would once again come and see us in the uniforms and we say thank you once more- but since then you have never come to visit us. We hope you have not forgotten us because we believe you do pray for us and we also do pray for you and your ministry. We are proud of God’s blessing thru you and your ministry towards us the prisoners.

We also want to inform you that God has given us a new officer in charge, Very God fearing and kind and she has created peace in the station. However we are sorry to inform you that the uniform are all torn now and many women are walking naked, we pray that God may bless us thru your hands once more, to share our burden with you (Galatians 6:2). We know you have been fulfilling the scripture according to Mathew 25:34-40. We are indeed grateful to God for your ministry. we as church have sent you the big basket for the church and the tablemats for your madam. The bible says no man shall separate what God has put together. We love you and your family! Amen!!

Need

Keep Kitalya Prison in your prayer so that the Lord may continue with the work He is doing in that place.

We also request you to remember to pray for the Church and the inmates of women prison Luzira. Over two years ago, we made several visits to the inmates of women prison where we preached to them and provided New Testament Bibles, soap, Sugar, sanitary pads and also bought uniforms for everyone of them. Last year we couldn’t have access to the prison because of other programmes that the prison Authority had for the place. But recently one of the officers of the prison while delivering the letter we have reproduced above invited us to come over to the women prison and be a help to them again in providing uniforms.

Kindly remember our prison Ministry team in your prayers as we endeavour to reach out to these jails with the Love of Christ. We shall be visiting four more prisons within this season.

If you feel touched in your heart to support us and help us in this mission of reaching the prisoners for Christ, please feel free to contact us and tell us what you would want to do about it. May God bless you.

Prison Report

(Naguru Remmand Home)

{mosimage}

We visited Naguru Remand Home Kampala on the 16th September 2006. The home receives young offenders whose ages range from 12-17 years from courts. For over three months the Spirit of God placed a burden in my heart to reach this home and share the gospel with the Children. During this visit our team provided the children with five (5) boxes of laundry soap, enabling each child to receive a bar of soap. We also provided New Testament bible for each child and distributed gospel tract messages.

{mosimage}

Most of the children in the remand home come from broken families; others are orphaned while others got stranded in the City when they came from their villages to look for relatives they never found. In the end in one-way or another they joined the wrong group and ended up in the remand home.

I traveled to the remand home with the Church treasurer Loyce Okello, Assistant Church administrator Robinson Okello, Emma Opanyi the church technician and the children Sunday school children choir led by Sanya Rogers. The children ministered through a dramatized song about the final judgement at the end of the age. I ministered about the Love of God for the children and God’s plan for them through Christ. When we first began to minister, many of the children stared at us blankly without interest but as I continued to share the testimonies about the love of Jesus, I saw their faces brightening. When I made an altar call, forty-nine children out of ninety-eight surrendered their lives to Christ. By the time we came to the end of the function it was all smiles for many of the children.

What a joy Jesus can bring to the lives of the children! No wonder Jesus said in Mathew 19:14 “Let the little Children come to me, and do not hinder them…”He alone created them. He alone can reach inside their young hearts and plant the seed of change in their hearts through the granting of eternal life. Stand with us in prayer for those dear souls so that God can complete the work he has begun in them. God bless you.

PRISON BRIEF

(Mbuya Military Prison)

On Sunday the 6th of May 2006, our team visited Mbuya Military Barracks in Kampala were we delivered Laundry soap, gospel tracts and New Testament Bibles for soldiers in the military cells awaiting trial. We could not preach to them but we met their prayer leader, a man converted to the Lord through the earlier gospel tract messages he received in the cells through one of the prisoners we visited. That prompted them to write to us asking us to visit them.

The junior soldiers we met there told us that we ought to go back so that they can take us to the rightful officer for clearance to have us share the gospel with the military prisoners.

REQUEST:

Please pray that the gospel tracts and the New Testament Bibles they have received will enable them to make a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray also that we shall receive the clearance to preach to and pray with them.

May God bless you.

PRISON REPORT

BULAULA PRISON

Our team visited Bulaula prison on 21st April 2007. Bulaula prison is in Kayunga district North east of Kampala about one and a half hours drive.

The Officer In Charge (OC) Mr. Nabimanya Erickson Notti is a God loving man who handles the inmates with a father’s heart. We arrived at Bulaula one hour late due to the poor road condition. We found the prisoners eagerly waiting for us. The officer in charge gave us enough time to share the gospel. After the testimonies of the two of our team members about the transforming power of Jesus Christ, I shared God’s desire to make peace with men through His Son Jesus Christ. I challenged them to make peace with God by accepting Jesus Christ who is the only One who can change them and give them quality life. Twenty-three inmates out of about one hundred gave their lives to Christ.

One inmate called Zachariah, on coming forward emptied his pockets of all the tobacco that he had as he knelt down in humility to receive Christ. Before Zachariah came forward, no one came forward. Zachariah seemed to have been a tough prisoner, when he came forward; his fellow inmates were taken by surprise. They laughed in unbelief. Then as if to say “if Zachariah has accepted Christ, then Christ Jesus must be real,” and the rest then came forward quickly.

The OC of the prison was very grateful to see Zachariah surrender his life to Jesus Christ. There was a lot of joy and jubilation among the inmates who were already saved as they welcomed the newly saved.

God is a good God who is able to change the hearts of men. We give to God the glory for saving His people. We distributed the gospel message tracts and also provided laundry soap enough to reach every prisoner.

NEED

Pray for the Bulaula Prison inmates especially those who are newly saved that they may be strengthened to eventually bear fruit. Pray also for the prison staff that the Lord may touch them with the gospel and save them. Pray also that God blesses those who sponsor this ministry. Pray that God may open the way for the rehabilitation of the staff quarters of Bulaula prison that is currently in a very bad state. Some Pentecostal churches previously rehabilitated the prison jails. Pray also for God to give grace to our prison team to continue reaching into the prisons with the gospel.

If you feel touched in your heart to be of help to the prison ministry be free to reach us. May God bless you.

JUNE 2005 PRISON UP- DATE.

Murchison Bay Prison.

Our visit to this prison was on the 23rd April 2005. It was a blessed visit we freely shared the gospel with the inmates. Ten in mates surrendered their lives to the Lord. It was a wonderful thing to see God’s word lift up people’s faith and restore their hopes. We saw gloomy faces getting transformed to radiate joy and love. Their leaders gave a morning testimony of how we came to prison as a thief but ended up meeting Christ who said has transformed his life. He said that never again will he lead a life of crime. We also distributed donated 10 cartons of washing soap and distributed gospel tracts.

Luzira women prisons.

Our visit to women prison which was scheduled on 28th May 2005 failed due to a heavy down pour. And so our next visit to women prison will be scheduled for 26th June 2005. We shall be taking uniform materials that will make dresses is for 125 dress that is of the inmates in the women prison. The material shall be tailored from the prison . Otherwise if we had adequate funds Us 750,000 /= 400us dollars would have tailored it ourselves. We shall also take gospel tracts for distribution. Keep us in your prayers. In case you wish to support this out –reach you are most welcome. God bless you.

Prison ministry up-date.

Upper prison condemn section.

Our team visited upper prison on the 26th March 2005. We were un able to talk to the condemn prisoners except their leaders but through were promised access latter. However we handed over to them gospel tracts, 5 cartons of washing soap and 2 bags of sugar. Their leaders Brother Okello Okidi wrote back giving thanks to God. He said that the sugar and the soap meant a lot to them: It was God’s love being extended to them through the Brethren out side the prison. So keep the ministry in prayer so that the next visit to condemn section will see us preach the gospel to them. May God bless you.
